Teach Your Kids About Earth Day and the Environment
By:Axel Meierhoefer

In connection with the celebration of Earth Day, there are free lessons that can be found on the internet. These lessons are prepared in such a way that the concept of environmental conservation and preservation would be sent across to the students. Basically, these lessons are prepared for the young children at the elementary level. It is important that they would be able to develop a genuine concern for the environment earlier in their lives, so that they would be able to practice it when they grow older. The Earth Day celebration on April 22nd 2009 is getting a lot of participation most especially in the public schools. This is probably the reason why there have been a lot of prepared Earth Day lessons for the elementary pupils in the public schools. Some of these lessons include the following topics:

Climate Change

This is probably one of the most important lessons that can be discussed and shared with on Earth Day celebration. It is very important to realize that these climate changes are effects and results of some activities of humans. Identifying the activities that contribute to climate change is very critical because it would lead to finding out the solutions for this problem. Climate change is a global concern; therefore everybody should be aware of it regardless of race, age, religion, and culture. There have been reports on significant changes in the climactic pattern in different parts of the world, such that it has caught the attention of major environmental groups and organization.

Global Warming

This is another environmental phenomenon that people should be aware about. The increasing air humidity and significant temperature increases in the environment are significant signs of global warming. There have been various observed warmer weathers, and heat waves in different regions all over the world. Outbreaks of different diseases brought about by global warming have been observed also. Discussing these environmental conditions would deem very important especially in the younger generation.

Recycling

Another very important lesson is recycling. Recycling is definitely one way of helping mother Earth. It would reduce the amount of garbage that is just dumped into the environment. It would also teach the students the different ways of recycling and waste segregation. If wastes and garbage are carefully segregated, it would solve problems on garbage disposal. Other garbage materials are just carelessly burned which contribute to the formation of air pollutants. Discussing possible contributions toward environmental preservation and conservation can be a good exercise for elementary school pupils.

If you have kids, or grandkids, or know someone who has, please help them find meaningful activities and lessons for their kids and make them aware of these opportunities to learn and participate in Earth Day.
