Modern Fable: The Boy the Sky and the Earth
A smiling boy lay flat on his back in the sweet summer grass gazing up at the dreamy sky. "The sky is cool and free and blue", he said. "The earth is cold and dark and takes all the dirty things. I like the sky."
Suddenly the ground shook and a great voice boomed up from below, shocking the boy who jumped to his knees. "Yes I take the dead", spoke Earth, who some call Kalli, "and all the filth of the world, but come spring I give back flowers and food and babies. I like the sky too. Earth and Sky are one. See, my worms and roots breath.
