Teaching English as a Second Language courses vary upon the level of expertise of the students in the class. They almost always involve required time both in class and in a computer lab, where interactive programs are utilized to supplement lessons.

Basic Courses
Basic courses provide an introduction to becoming fluent in English, in the context of learning it as a second language. Courses such as "Introduction to Grammar" provide background fundamentals for students, like tenses and colloquial language. Another common introductory class is "Speech Concepts" which assists students in grasping the fundamentals of the spoken word in practice beyond simple reading and writing.

Advanced Courses
Advanced courses delve deeper into a study of the English language. They focus on topics such as paragraph writing, critical writing, creative writing and critical reading. The highest level classes frequently explore accent reduction and acclimation to culture such as exposure to media, art, and other topics which "properly" or "authentically" utilize the language.

Locations
TESOL courses are often requirements for foreign born students to study at universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and other predominantly English speaking nations. Courses are also frequently offered at community colleges for non-native speakers looking to further their personal and professional lives.
