Yes and no. The basic qualifications are a degree and a TEFL certificate so I would suggest getting the latter. There are plenty of jobs in Asia, particularly China, which are open. Although 55 is considered quite old, you should be able to find work although it will be a little more difficult than if you were much younger. You may, in other words, have to hunt around a little more.
