Glad to have offered some help. Starting in 2011, Cambridge ESOL will be offering an alternative method of doing the CELTA course. This will not replace the existing approaches but is in response to those who want more flexibility. Each accredited centre can apply to become an online centre. The staff at these centres will have to undergo further training and qualify in distance and online learning methods. There will be a central online resource of materials for trainees. The teaching practice components and observation will be the same, so going to a centre for observation and feedback is crucial and a requirement. I don't expect this new scheme to be available in all centres for some time, but it is yet another option if you want to spread the course over a longer period. For some "homework" you might consider 'mocking-up' some lesson and stage plans. The methodology I like and use is the ESA approach - Engage,Study, Activate. It really focuses your mind on what you hope to achieve and how you will deliver each stage of the lesson. It also encourages a teacher to move away from the T>S (Teacher > Student) method, predominant in many lecture/instructor formats and will engage students because it is more student-centred.
