TESOL, TEFL and CELTA forum
Although my BS and MS are in Music field, and my teaching certification is for music K-12, I have recently become interested in teaching English.
My question is simple: What is the most efficient way for me to acquire TESOL certification? Is there a challenge test I can take? (As a reluctant member of an ever-growing economically challenged society, it is all but mandatory that I keep my expenses, if not null, at least to a bare minimum.)
I enjoyed filling in an at English teacher for a fellow USAF bandsman in Panama (1967-1971). I was also able to become the assistant conductor of the Panamanian National Choir, which involved helping choir members pronounce not only English, but French, German and Italian languages. Most recently I have tutored my four grandchildren as they struggle to understand their native tongue and its spelling problems.
Recently I looked at a site about teaching in China and it led me here. It seems that a TESOL certificate is now required for anyone who wants to teach English in a foreign country.
Sincerely,
Kenneth C. Anderson
