Re: Teach English Overseas Web site: TESOL training, jobs, internships

After perusing their website I can't say I am surprised. These folks are recruiters, but of a much worse kind then the usual. I suppose that's why the need for trying to appear other than what they are.

Their internships are paid alright, paid by you. Imagine paying someone else to work for them. Of course you don't work for these people, you work with a school that works with them. You pay this "agency/recruiter" they set you up with a job, you do get paid a salary, but the "agent/recruiter" also get's paid by the school, paid with your money. This is a wonderful scam in the ESL teaching world today, and should be posted under scams. Pay them for the privilege of working, 2,400 AU, get paid peanuts, AU 450 a month, and get yourself a free room, not apartment of course.

The teaching is all done in China consequently, where a dog with a stick can find work easier than he can sniff out a fire hydrant. Shameless.

Let me lay it out for you. This "agency" goes to schools that have a hard time finding teachers, as this "agency" says they will hire pretty much anyone, the ability to speak English their only requirement. They tell the schools "We can get you all the teachers you need for X amount of yuan". The agent then goes to the teacher and convinces them right off the bat that they are not a recruiter, but a teacher trainer/job placement agent, when of course they are a recruiter. In doing this, they can effectively charge you money also. Now the agent/recruiter is getting paid by both parties, teacher and school, and justifies it by all their fancy talk and fuax services. The agent/recruiter handles everything for the teacher, from their pay to living conditions. You are given a "shared" apartment, or bunk on some dingy campus no doubt. If a shared apartment, the school gets paid to billet you, finds the cheapest accommodation possible, billets you with 1 or 2 other teachers, and then pockets whatever money is left over. Now they are making triple profit.

This type of agent is the hardest to spot, as they offer some really sub par services to justify huge fees and even bigger profits over the long term. Those profits are made off of your hard work. They say on their website that you must have the type of certificate they offer to teach in China, a lie of course. To teach in China all you need is to be able to speak English, a decent smile, and a white face. Often you don't even need that. Why on earth would I or anyone pay these people money to allow them to get paid for work I am doing. I pay them for the right to have them, get paid????????????? Really?

If you want to find work in China, please visit the China job section on this website. There are literally hundreds of jobs there, some of them allowing direct contact with the school. You can keep your money, all of it, and not have to pay a recruiter that is calling themselves something other than a recruiter.

Pay these people 2,400 AU, then spend money on an expensive plane ticket, for the privilege of making 450 AU a month, and getting to share a place with 1 or 2 other people? I don't think so. I advise you all to pass on this service.
