I live and work in Taiwan, a nation obsessed with certificates and education. I work in a private school (giraffe american english school), in fact they are a chain of schools. I have no TESOL/TEFL/CELTA, and I have no degree! How did I manage to get this job here? I did a 30minute demo and the director of the school observed me and noticed the kids liked my work. I am married to a Taiwanese woman and soon I will have my Alien Residency Permit so I can work here, I am currently working and driving illegally. I earn the equivalent of 15 english pounds per hour teaching 12 hours per week. CELTA etc may help people, but primarily you require a natural talent to be able to entertain and make kids pass tests out here... I love it... I also don't speak Chinese but I intend to learn.
