Well, just have a look on most esl websites including this very good one, the many courses offered. They are all aimed at making money. Can anyone seriously believe that CELTA is a worthwhile course. Take it from me, overseas they only care about a degree, and more and more you need to have a teaching degree or a TESOL major. Also, among most TAFE colleges now, the CELTA has been deemed insufficient. Many courses are promoted but they are merely gimmicks. CELTA was always set up as a means of cashing in on all the teachers going overseas. You can not learn in four weeks how to teach English as a second language. My goodness, just take the time do a degree and make sure it is relevant. Increasingly, the CELTA is losing agency, and rightly so. Look even the schools overseas have now created their own TESOL certificates. All that CELTA has done, is cash in on a niche market, they created the need and waited for the people to come. And come they have under the guise of being useful if you want to teach, indeed imperative, if you want to teach overseas. Well, as long as ten years ago, it was not accepted, and it is not now. If schools overseas accept you with a CELTA only, believe me they will accept you without it unless it is a means of having you work for nothing or pay for one. Well, good luck everyone, and if you want to teach you do not need a CELTA. Sorry, you need a degree, and increasingly it has to be relevant. Sure, there are many people teaching without a degree, and if you are one of those, don't waste your money on a CELTA, just do it, and get the experience and get paid for it. Good - Luck.
