-I was employed as an INSTRUCTOR in the English Language Program, part of the College of Professional and Global Education. I taught ESL in a program for foreign students who are bound for U.S. universities and graduate schools.

My specialty is advanced WRITING and RESEARCH, and my classes focus on teaching everything from rhetorical patterns and paragraph organization to the writing of in-depth research papers. The students are also introduced to on-line databases and Internet research. Furthermore, students are taught critical thinking skills through exposure to American literature and scholarly journal articles and they participate in cooperative activities that stress the integrative nature of L2 acquisition. Guest Lecturer, Translation

I was invited twice as a guest lecturer in Professor Clorinda Donato’s 560/460 course, The Art of Translation. In February 2012, I presented on the poetry and song lyrics of Serge Gainsbourg, whose biography, Gainsbourg, I translated for TamTam books that same year.

On May 15, 2006, I was invited to present my translation of Boris Vian’s L’Automne à Pékin, the first ever French to English publication of this novel.

- I taught a community college French 101 course during the fall semester. This was an introductory-level course that exposed students to the basics of simple tenses, pronunciation, vocabulary, and conversation.

-I taught second year French grammar and conversation to university students. These classes introduced students to more complex syntax, literary tenses, and the basics of paragraph composition in French. Furthermore, students were introduced to readings that stressed French culture and civilization and given an introduction to French literature in the form of short stories and poetry.

CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH.
Research Assistant, 1991-1992

-I worked directly under Dr. Clorinda Donato, Chair of Romance Languages. I performed a variety of functions as Dr. Donato’s assistant.

- I DEVELOPED THE SYLLABUS CONTENT for an upper-level history course entitled “Consequences of the Encounter” -- a course designed for the five hundred year anniversary of the first European/Native American contact in North America. This involved scanning and reading dozens of scholarly journal articles and books, as well as EDITING and REWRITING the original syllabus.

-I PROOFREAD and EDITED Dr. Donato’s doctoral thesis on the Encyclopédie d’Yverdon. This was detailed and painstaking work, which called for me to check Dr. Donato’s index of the encyclopedia against the text of the original 18th century French version.

-I transcribed an 18th century Spanish manuscript on the Inquisition’s findings concerning the Encyclopedia of Diderot and d’Alembert.

-I worked full-time for I.P.O. Centre Educatif, Montreal. I gave intensive English courses to Canadian and immigrant students in the Montreal area. I also prepared students for the TOEFL test – the Test Of English as a Foreign Language.
