Kerry <koesan@gmail.com> - 2014-09-09

Hello and thank you for your time.

I have a somewhat unique opportunity for 2 trustworthy ESL students who want to improve their English skills. At the same time you can encourage and support a senior citizen.

I've been involved with the Australian aged care industry for a while. I'm now running a pilot program in which a senior citizen teaches ESL. This pilot program is being run to determine if ESL students and senior citizens can benefit one another.

We started about a month ago with one senior citizen in Queensland, and one student in South America. It has been very successful for both of them. So I am now looking for 2 more students.

If you want to know more you will find further information at the end of this posting.

General Details

Cost: The lessons cost AUD$15 an hour. Entire amount goes to the senior citizen.

Payment Method: PayPal is preferred. However, other payment methods will be considered if needed.

First Lesson: The first lesson is free and there is no obligation to continue.

The free lesson is required because I need to be certain that both of you will enjoy working with each other.

If you are interested then please contact me now to book. When you do please include the following information.

1. Days/Times you would be available for lessons.
2. How many hours a week you want.
3. What time zone you are in.
4. What you want/need to focus on in the lessons.

Thank you for your interest and I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Kerry.

PS: Please remember that I receive no payment. The entire amount paid goes to the senior citizen.

Additional Information

The program has various aims, for example:

1. Providing English conversation lessons for students who cannot afford the usual full rates;
2. Giving senior citizens the opportunity to feel useful and valued again;
3. And helping senior citizens earn a little extra income to supplement their pension.

The pilot started with Brian who is in his late 50s. He is wheelchair dependent and lives in an aged care facility. The first student is located in South America. Being very happy with the lessons that student has now booked, and paid in advance for, a 10 hour block.

Brian is enjoying it so much that he asked me if I could find him another 2 students. He thinks he will be able to work with a maximum of 3 students.

I'm coaching Brian to help him develop his teaching skills. I can do this because I have many years of experience in the ESL industry.

- 3 years in Japan which included training other ESL teachers
- Almost 10 years in South Korea
- Several years in Australia which included intensive IELTS coaching

Currently I'm the editor for a Korean publishing and translation company. I work on novels, contracts, and various other documents.

I am TESOL certified, have a Cert IV TAE (Training) which includes Language Literacy and Numeracy, and I am in the process of completing a Master of Applied Linguistics.

However, please keep in mind that though I am coaching him, Brian is not a certified ESL teacher. If you need a highly skilled and experienced ESL teacher then this may not be for you.

If the second stage of this pilot is successful then the next step will be involving more senior citizens. The aim is to offer this to as many students as possible.
