Facebook Privacy Issues You Need To Be Aware Of
By:Jeremy C.

In recent months, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding Facebook and its privacy settings. The site's default setting gives many individuals and businesses access to a user's personal information. Fortunately, all of these settings can be changed, but most people have no idea how to go about doing that. Dealing with Facebook privacy issues can be quite the hassle even though it should not be.

For starters, a user should never keep his or her Facebook information public because that leaves too much information in the open. Employers and school officials regularly check a person's profile on the site to see what that person is up to. Some bad posts or pictures could get a person fired or in other types of trouble. Also, criminals regularly look for public profiles that are stocked full of personal information that can be used for identity theft. Users should absolutely never set their information to completely public - it's too dangerous.

To change these settings, a person must first use their Facebook login and then go to their account settings and head on over to privacy. The site features simple to understand sliders that can hide information from everyone or allow only certain groups to see the info. In reality, it is best for every user to make all information accessible by friends only. Doing so will negate almost all Facebook privacy issues, assuming a user can trust his or her online friends.

A user can do a lot more to protect his or her privacy while using Facebook though. For instance, phone numbers and addresses should never be viewable on a person's profile. The same goes for email addresses and birthdays that show the birth year. On top of that, a user should consider providing a random email address as a Facebook login for his or her account so that the primary one is never compromised. There are a lot of other things that a Facebook user can do to keep themselves safe.

Sure, there are plenty of concerns over privacy when it comes to Facebook, but that does not mean the site is very dangerous or anything like that. Millions and millions of users access the site each day and do not have too many problems. The biggest issue is that so many users hurt their own privacy and safety by providing incriminating posts and photos, listing too much personal information, or something else. To be honest, privacy should be the main concern of every user.

Facebook privacy issues are not going to just go away any time soon, but that does not mean a person cannot take matters into their own hands. Remaining as anonymous and private on the Internet as possible is extremely important. Obviously, a person does not want to be a victim of identity theft or have their entire life listed on the web.
