| Creating ESL (English As a Second Language) Activities for Websites
By:J Paiin

ESL activities are a major part of learning the English language. These activities are meant to be fun but also help the student learn different parts of the language. For example, matching activities help a student learn how to spell the word while learning the meaning. Having nice pictures make the activity more entertaining.

Creating ESL activities generally takes some time. A lot of thought needs to be put into them. You need to consider what lesson is being learned, if there is a theme involved, and what level of English the activity is teaching. The activity also needs to be engaging.

The level of English may be one of the most difficult parts. The age of the student may not have anything to do with the level of English because the student may be an older person or have already graduated from school. At the same time, the person may be a child but in advanced English.

English activities are usually separated by level and not by age. There are beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. There are also levels in between such as beginner-intermediate or advanced-intermediate. These levels have to be looked at closely to find out where your particular activities stand.

Of course, some activities will be more suited for children than adults. There are websites that not only have their activities divided by levels but also according to age. This is somewhat tedious but helps your readers or clients a lot in terms of finding what they need.

For younger learners, matching and coloring sheets can help in the learning process and it is a lot of fun for them. Word search puzzles are great for younger and older learners but should only be based on the skill level of the class. These are very versatile because you can change the level just by altering the words that they are looking for in the puzzle. Fill-in-the-blanks are suitable for intermediate levels and advanced levels and can be written on many different topics. There are so many activities that can be created, that are both fun and effective, that you can't run out. It is just a matter of choosing those that are appropriate for age and skill.

For those of you who are creating your own ESL activities, consider these few points. If you are having difficulty with it, you have the option of hiring a writer for the task. There are freelance writers available with ESL certifications that are qualified to write these activities. It wouldn't hurt to try it at least once to get some ideas of your own.
