Writing and Public Speaking
Would you want your reader to read more than the article title? If you would you must make sure your opening lines are interesting. Use background information, set a scene or make a simple statement. Three techniques that can bring traffic and help list building.
Begin with background information Kick off by giving the reader a fact. This will not only help him to understand your main idea but also to create an interest. Ex: In 1990 scientists forecasted that one of the first signs of global warming will be glaciers that melt. It is now 2008 and a satellite picture revealed what we hardly hoped to see. Now you stated what the scientists said but the reader must read the article to find out what the satellite pictured revealed.
Set a Scene Ex: It was the year 1652 and one man, old a grey, was outside under the stars. He carefully opened the box and took out a piece of glass with a tube connected to it. Instead of looking at the houses down the street, he took it and looked up. What he saw would change everything we ever believed of the starry night sky. Galileo wanted to call his wife, but realized she would not understand. Now the scene is set and you can answer the questions the reader would have wanted to ask you.
Begin with a Simple statement of your thesis. You do not always have to be clever and lure your reader into reading further. You can also make a statement .Ex: In Alberton, south of Johannesburg South Africa, you will not find kids watching television before nine at night. This is because they are not at home. They are out on the streets doing community service. You see, the Alberton High school makes 60 hours community service compulsory before you may graduate. Another example after which your article can explain how it came about and what kind of charity services are done.
Three easy techniques to enhance your article introduction and lure readers into reading. The more they read, the more likely they will visit your site.
