Article Writing - 6 Mistakes to Avoid in Article Writing
By:J B Cole

Popularizing your articles in various article libraries and site is the primary activity of any marketer interested in building his brand and reputation. However, there are certain points that separate the good writers from the not so good writers. The good writers do not commit the following mistakes that the not so good writers frequently commit.

1. Typos: These are harmless mistakes but are quite irritating. Many writers while typing at top speeds to get their article out quickly tend to make typing mistakes, also called typos. For instance, they might type 'form' instead of 'from'. This changes the meaning of the sentence significantly. Hence, you must review your article very carefully after writing it.

2. Grammatical errors: Many marketers do not pay attention to the grammatical correctness of their articles. They frequently use 'it's' and 'its' or 'your' and 'you're' interchangeably and change the meaning of what they want to convey. If you want to be considered an expert in your field, you must ensure that your articles are without a single grammatical error.

3. Punctuation errors: Punctuation like commas, full stops, quotes and apostrophes are important if you want your audience to read your articles easily. For instance, "Capture not, set free" is totally different from "Capture, not set free" just depending on the position of the comma. So take care of your punctuation.

4. Changing voice: Many amateur writers keep changing the voice of their sentences several times in the article. They might use a sentence like 'People drink beer.' which is the active voice and suddenly switch to 'Beer is drunk by people.' which is the passive voice later in the article. Reading text with frequently changing voice is not smooth. Therefore, you must stick to one voice throughout the article.

5. Long Paragraphs: The attention span of the current generation of internet users is understandably low. They need to devour thousands of words and paragraphs to get to the right information they are searching for. So it is rare to find someone who will read your article word for word. So if you want to succeed in getting the user to read or in the least, scan your article, you must make it easy for him by writing short paragraphs and giving a heading to each paragraph.

6. Self promotion: Many marketers think that by writing about their qualities, they can create a positive impression about themselves. Nothing can be more wrong. People are not interested in knowing about you but in solving their problems. If you are able to solve their problems then they will consider you an expert. So avoid excessive bragging and hype about yourself or your business in your articles.

Avoid these mistakes like the swine flu and you will succeed in your marketing.
