How to Write a Novel - Simple Steps to Get You Started
By:Trevor Johnson

Are you interested in learning how to write a novel? If so, you will want to seriously consider the tips and suggestions herein. These tips and methods have been used by hundreds of successful and bestselling authors for decades.

First and foremost you will need to come up with a story idea that has a definite beginning, middle, and end. If you are considering writing a novel then chances are you have already come up with a story idea.

From there you will want to create a detailed outline of the events that will take place in your story from start to finish. At this point you will also want to begin creating charter sketches. You can create a story outline and build characters sketches at the same time.

Character sketches are brief descriptions of each character and their individuals traits and quirks. You will want to do this so that you can make sure that each character in your novel is distinct. You should also begin to develop their "voice." You don't want every character in your novel sounding the same. Therefore, you should actually write a few sentences of dialogue and figure out how each character would say them. This will help you begin to distinguish your characters from one another.

Once you have come up with a detailed outline and have created your character sketches you should begin to write. Beginning a novel is usually the hardest part of the task. However, you should set a goal for yourself each and every day. Many well known writers will force themselves to write at least six pages a day. You can choose the amount of writing that works best for you.

Realize that when you are considering how to write a novel, that you should rely on your instincts and above all else write! Don't be fearful to stray away from your outline or to change events once you have planned them. That is a natural part of the story writing process.
