Writing and Public Speaking

How To Successfully Deliver A Speech
By:Andrew Clayton

Public speaking is the act of speaking on a particular subject in front of a group of people with the intention of influencing, entertaining or informing the listeners. In order to be a good orator one must be able to influence people, change their opinion, and transform the emotion of the listeners as pertaining to that particular subject.
Here are some excellent tips for you to successfully improve your public speaking skills.

1. Be thorough with your material. Be opinionated, yet make sure you dont antagonize any potential opposition. Know more about the topic than you include in your speech. What is more important is knowing your subject inside out.
2-Organize your context-A well-organized, easy-to-follow speech makes it easier for the audience to stay with you every step of the way. The less the audience has to think about where you were in the speech or where youre going next, the more theyll be able to enjoy the journey
3-Write and re write -Rehearse out loud with all equipment you plan on using. Revise as necessary. Work to control filler words; Practice, pause and breathe. The most memorable and successful speeches in history are speeches that were written and rewritten. This doesnt mean you have to read your speech, but youre better off writing it.
4-Rehearse on video -Video will tell you what your friends and colleagues may be too nice to say. It can be a painful process, but youll gain valuable feedback. You will know exactly where to improve .You can improve your expressions, syllable stressing and voice through video training.
5-Speak the language of your audience- When you speak to the audience at their level, they will immediately connect with you
6-Know the room. Arrive early, walk around the speaking area and practice using the microphone and any visual aids.
7-Be calm. Begin by taking a deep breath and looking straight ahead of you, yet not just at one spot, so it looks like you are interacting with everybody. Smile, and pause, it calms the nerves and buys you time.

8-Realize that people want you to succeed- Audiences want you to be interesting, stimulating, informative and entertaining. Theyre rooting for you. You have to see them as a friendly audience as against a criticizing one.

9-Dont apologize for any nervousness or a mistake the audience may not have noticed it

10-On the stage, just be yourself-be authentic, authenticity is lost when you imitate some other speaker, so be passionate about your topic. The more passionate you are about your topic, the more your audience will act on your suggestion.

At the end of the day, just be confident, keep youre cool and you can capture that stage!

Follow these tips and you will be giving great speeches in on time.
