School:University of Guelph's ESL University Preparation Programs

PROGRAMS:
Graduate Preparation Program:
For many international students, studying at the graduate level in a respected Western university is an important factor in professional and academic success. The skills required for academic success are very challenging for students who are unfamiliar with the academic culture of North America. Even after many years of dedicated study in their home universities and despite having an excellent academic future, most international students need to develop different academic skills to flourish in a different academic culture.

Summer English Program - 2008:
The Summer English Program is a learning holiday designed to give international students an introduction to university life in Canada while improving their English speaking, listening and writing abilities.

International Student Certificate Program:
This year-abroad program is designed for international university students who want to improve their English skills and experience academic study in a top Canadian university. This program is ideal for you if you are not able to take advantage of traditional university student exchange programs. Where is Guelph?
The University of Guelph is located in the friendly City of Guelph in southwestern Ontario, Canada, close to Toronto and Niagara Falls. Guelph is located about 40 minutes from the Toronto International Airport, about 1 hour from downtown Toronto and about 1.5 hours from Niagara Falls.

About the City of Guelph: The City of Guelph has a population of 113,000 people. Guelph offers you clean, safe, small community living, close to big city conveniences. Guelph is one of the ten best cities in which to live in Canada. (Chatelaine magazine - popular women's magazine). The United Nations ranks Canada as the best country in which to live and learn. The UN considers factors such as personal safety, education and the cost of living. The city of Guelph was named in 1827 to honour the British Empire's King George IV, whose family name was Gwelf. The spelling has changed over the years to become Guelph, but it is pronounced just as it was 170 years ago: Gwelf (rhymes with self). This is why the City of Guelph is commonly referred to as the "Royal City".
