Saskatchewan - Regina
School:University of Regina's ESL Language Program

ESL offers a 10-week regular program, 4 times per year. Students receive 220 hours of instruction by university trained ESL instructors. Classes are held on campus with an average class size of 16 students. ESL students have their own computer lab with scheduled class time as well as drop-in times. Scholarships and bursaries are awarded to students during a formal Closing Ceremony and 050 students receive a certification of completion.

Each regular program consists of a core curriculum and elective courses. Core courses are 3 hours a day for a total of 15 hours a week. Core courses are organized according to skill level. Students study listening, speaking, reading, and writing through a theme-based integrated curriculum.

Students can tailor the program, to a certain extent, to suit their individual language needs. While the core courses are highly academic, the electives offer choices of academic, business, and cultural courses. Electives (A & B) are divided into sections and require a specific level of language proficiency. Electives focus on specific language skills offered through classroom instruction, workshops, seminars and socio-cultural activities.

HOMESTAY:
Homestay is a great way to learn about Canadian and its multi-cultural society. It allows students to become part of a family unit, and feel comfortable in a safe environment. The ESL homestay program is composed of Canadian families, couples, single parents and single adults, as well as Landed Immigrants and New Canadian Citizens. All registered hosts sign a commitment contract and undergo a Police Record Check. The Housing Coordinator keeps in touch with the hosts and students on a regular basis; home visits and student surveys help ensure that quality housing standards are maintained.

Please note that while we make every effort to place students in a homestay relatively close to the University of Regina , it is our primary goal to place students with hosts that share interests, and who are willing to welcome students into their family and daily lives.

The ESL Housing Coordinator will arrange your accommodation and airport pick up service done by the homestay family when all required information has been provided to ESL. Homestay placement information will be issued to the student one month to three weeks prior to the start of the ESL Program students have registered for.
