How Do Students Get Motivated?
By:Collaborator

Being in Shape to Learn

It is important that each student be in good enough physical shape to learn. Every student, no matter what age, should always have an up-to-date health record.

The Basis for Motivation

Motivation starts with discovering a reason to want to do something. A student may want acclaim or may want to master the subject matter perfectly. A student may be passionate about a subject, or may see a longer term benefit such as an occupation.

Enjoying Achievement

No matter what the basis for motivation, action creates achievement, which creates feelings of self-worth and accomplishment. Success breeds more motivation, and the student is now on the proper road for learning.

Reinforcement can be a very positive thing or a very negative thing. If a student is motivated to rebel, for example, success at that will just cause more rebellion. Conversely, if someone is now functioning on the basis of achievement, they will be "self-starters."

Non-Academic Learning

Motivation is not limited to academic learning. It can include anything, such as learning to drive, ski or play an instrument.

Viewing Results and Summary

As students see results, they become aware that effort yields accomplishment. This insight helps them achieve what they set their minds to.
Only when students believe that they can impact their life can progress be made.
