How to Stop Getting Bullied
By:Nabihah Zaid

Bullying is where someone is treated in an intimidating way by someone else or a group of people. If you are one of the victims of bullying, you might want to follow these easy tips to avoid being the victim of bullying again.

Walk away

A difficult thing to do, but the best way to stop people from going after you. Don't run, just walk. If you run, they'll think you're afraid of them and they will only chase you to scare you even more. When someone picks a fight with you or tries to hurt you, just walk away from them, to show that you're not afraid of them, it's just that you do not want to go as low as them and you've got better things to do than fighting.

If they stop you, walk the other way around. If they still try to stop you, just tell them you've got better things to do than waste your time on them, and what I imagine they would do is call you a 'chicken'. When they say stuff like this, don't take it as a dare and control your cool. Be proud that you're not a sheep like them - following the leader instead of following their own selves. Chickens do what they do best, not following other chickens. So, take it as a compliment when they call you a chicken, just smile and walk away.

Talk

May not be as helpful to some people but talking could still help you. The key is to talk to them nicely and calmly. talking to one of them personally would be better than talking to the whole group and I would recommend talking to the leader of the group. If you talk to the whole group, they may just carry on to tease you and may even hurt you to show how 'funny' they are to their friends. In doesn't have to be a long talk, just as long as you can make it clear to them that you do not want any problems in the school and maybe find out why you're their main victim. Keep the talk simple and calm, so that they don't feel inferior than you and don't get upset with what they say because they'll mainly say it to be proud of themselves. They might have never been able to scream at people before, so just think of it that way and really you're giving them the opportunity of a lifetime - to scream and intimidate others.

Learn martial arts

When things get critical and walking away and the talk just doesn't seem to work (some people just don't understand the word 'no'. You don't need to spend your money on lessons to teach yourself martial arts. You can simply borrow a book from the library and teach yourself at home. Whichever kind of martial arts you think that suits you, such as Kung Fu and Karate. This is highly for self defense only - when the bullies just cannot leave you alone, that's when you use your martial arts. Don't you go around being the bully after, that will just be sad.
