Another point, which I am posting everywhere due to another of nightmare situations that have been arising this year, is about the Visa.
You should get an invitation letter from the company you're going to work with when you are outside of China, and get your working visa outside of China. It is okay to come to China with a tourist visa and transfer it, but during the time it's being transferred you MUST NOT WORK.
Don't let them tell you that it's being processed so it's okay. It's not. And if the authorities catch you, you could find yourself packing and going home. And be sure the company is not going to stand up and say "It was our fault, don't punish the poor ignorant westerner".
Do it the right way or don't do it at all. You don't want to be caught illegally working.
