Although tourism in Jordan is getting more expensive, it is also more reliable. I love travelling through Jordan and I was amazed at how much my 6 year-old enjoyed it as well. The preferable seasons are Autumn and Spring.

1. Amman City is a modern city. What I love about it, is that it provides excellent shopping for both souvenirs and daily items. It is also strong on food and especially pastries that are way too irresistible. I wouldn't rate it highly for sightseeing - a day is more than plenty.
2. The Dead Sea is your best bet to visit a unique disappearing geological phenomenon. The Dead Sea museum explains the 'how' and 'why' as well as its future fate to raise awareness to local and global environmental issues. The Dead Sea Panorama is among the 10 best views you will ever get in the Middle East. Bathing in the Dead Sea is exceptionally appreciated by children - the floating is a fun unforgettable experience.
3. Madaba is an important Christian city that offers a great market for handicrafts and local food. Do not miss on walking tours. The recent revival of Mosaic schools provide the tourist with the opportunity to see how mosaics are made and to purchase at reasonable prices.
4. Near by, do not miss the Hammamat Ma'in, the famous thermal baths. Relaxing facilities allow you and your children to enjoy the hot spring waters after a day in Madaba.
5. The Wadi Rum is the place to visit the desert. You do not want to venture alone, so opt for a good tour even if you have to invest a bit more. This landscape will be imprinted in your mind - it has a magic touch to it and local nomadic populations take you one thousand years back. It is also a great way to introduce children to alternative life-styles and the value of cultural differences.
5. Petra is a classic. You must schedule a full day and preferably sleep there as well. The landscape is very unique and the site is full of archaeological wonders to discover. Visiting the caves is a unique experience that children particularly enjoy. Here as well, hook with a good tour guide and opt for the camel ride. Make sure you negotiate prices for the whole group prior to the visit. Otherwise, these tend to fluctuate. The entrance fee to Petra is considerable, but worth the investment.
6. Aqaba is the southern jewel of Jordan. South of the town is most of the fun. The beaches are modest, but the Gulf has much hidden fun. Definitely do not miss on daring to scuba dive. Its numerous reefs provide refuge to incredible marine life. Be stunned and come back for more.
The top quality of Jordan is landscape. Think landscape means prepare to comfortably enjoy it with ample sun screen, a good hat, sunglasses and great walking shoes. Last but not least, I would invest on bottled water throughout the visit!
