A Visitors Guide To Helsinki Finland
By:Thomas Smith

The largest city and capital of Finland is Helsinki. It is the home to nearly 600,000 people, and this number is on the rise. Helsinki may not be the biggest city in Europe, but it is very important to the entire country of Finland. When it comes down to it, everything that goes on in Finland is run through the city of Helsinki. It is the center of politics, finance, business, fashion, and education. All of this goes a long way in making Helsinki very popular among tourists from all over the world.

If you are thinking about taking a trip to Finland your best bet would be to head straight for Helsinki. This does not mean that you have to stay in Helsinki for your entire visit, but since the entire country revolves around it you will at least want to get your start there. There are several high quality hotels in Helsinki that play host to thousands of tourists every year. By staying in one of these hotels you will feel right at home for the duration of your trip. And of course Helsinki has lower priced options as well if you are traveling on a budget.

If you like the arts Helsinki is definitely the place to be. The Helsinki Festival takes place every year. At the festival you will be able to look at some of the finest art and culture in all of Finland. The Helsinki Festival draws in tourists every year, and goes a long way in helping to sustain the tourism industry. Without the Helsinki Festival the tourism industry would not be nearly as strong as it is today.

Even though the Helsinki Festival is the most popular arts festival in Finland, there is another that you may want to consider. The Valon Voimat is an arts festival that takes place each winter, and again it showcases the fine culture of the area. For tourists that want to visit Helsinki during the winter planning around this festival is a must.

Helsinki also offers many miles of coastline since it is right on the Baltic Sea. If you are looking to take a relaxing trip to Helsinki spending time at the beach is your best option. You can soak up the rays, or take advantage of some water sports. Either way, you do not want to miss out on the beaches of Helsinki.

All international flights in and out of Helsinki are handled at the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. Helsinki is also home to a popular subway system that is used by both residents and tourists alike.

Overall, Helsinki is a great tourist destination. The city offers two of the best art festivals in the world, as well as beaches that are among the best in the area.
