Budapest - Hungary's Capital City
By:Gaizka Pujana

Many people are not aware that the city is actually made up of two cities that used to be known as Buda and Pest. The city is therefore comprised of two parts as Buda and Pest are divided by the Danube river. Buda is situated on the west bank and the other half of the city or Pest is situated on the east bank. Many historical monuments and landmarks dot the city of Budapest and this has significantly contributed to it becoming one of the most visited cities in the world as well as being one of the best places to live. In fact it is listed as one of the top one hundred places in the world to live in.

Did You Know?

Budapest is home to the largest synagogue in all of Europe, the Great Synagogue. It is able to accommodate three thousand people at a time. This synagogue is the second largest synagogue in the world; the largest is to be found in New York. The synagogue stands an impressive 44 meters high and covers two thousand square meters. It was built in the mid-19th century and boasts numerous temples and gardens.

The world's largest parliament building is also to be found in this awesome city and so is Europe's third largest church, the Esztergom Basilica. Interestingly this neo-gothic parliament happens to also be where the crown jewels are housed.

Budapest has the some of the world's oldest metro railways in the world. Europe's first ever underground railway is to be found in Budapest and is called the Millennium Underground. Considered to be one of the most beautiful of all the cities in Europe, Budapest is also home to a number of World Heritage Sites most notably the Danube, the Millennium Underground railway, and the Buda Castle Quarter.

Many visitors to Budapest are surprised to learn that there are more thermal springs underneath this city than can be found anywhere else in the world and they have given rise to numerous medicinal baths all around the city. More than seventy million liters of water are produced by these springs on a daily basis and in excess of 100 have been popular ever since the Roman Empire.

A visit to this fascinating and world-renowned city would never be complete without seeing what must arguably be one of the most important sights which is Andrássy út. There is also Heroes Square with its Millenary Monument as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Budapest occupies an enviable spot on the world's stage and continues to grow in popularity and prestige. It is an ideal destination for families with plenty to see, do, and intrigue even the most jaded traveler.

The city is so beautiful that you will like to stay longer than you have planned, so make sure you stay for a few days. A cheap way of accommodation are Budapest holiday apartments, they are well located and fully equipped. Budapest apartments http://www.getreadybudapest.com/.
