Monaco – Small Country that is Big on Hospitality

Have you been considering a visit to beautiful Monaco? If so, you should know that what it lacks in size it makes up for in hospitality. The rich and famous flock here for its beautiful scenery and its grand way of making one feel pampered and at home. How small is Monaco? If you have ever been to Central Park in New York City, think of its size, which is less than a square mile. This is approximately the same size as the entire country of Monaco, which, were it not for Vatican City in Rome, would be the smallest state on the planet. Monaco, or the Principality of Monaco, as it is also called, is surrounded on three sides by France and on the other side by the Mediterranean Sea, which makes it a huge haven for vacationers. Its mild climate makes it an ideal destination for visiting any time of the year. The official language of Monaco is French, but English and other languages are frequently spoken there, including Monegasque, which blends Italian and French.

Culture in Monaco

Monaco has a relatively small population, as you might imagine, and is home to many elite families that either spends the summer, winter, or the entire year in this beautiful haven. The culture in Monaco is affected greatly by the Roman Catholic Church, and is influenced by the variety of peoples that call this country home. Food is a big part of life in Monaco, and staples like fresh fruits and vegetables as well as seafood have become engrained into the culture.

Monaco Weather

When visiting Monaco, there really is not a time that is not optimal. Monaco has a simply glorious climate, although some folks say that spring and autumn are the most beautiful times to visit this tiny country, since it is warm enough to visit the beach during these times but it is also outside the normal peak season for tourists. If you want to swim, July is the best time of the year. A word of warning: plan your visit to avoid the Formula 1 Grand Prix week, which is typically in May each year. Monaco is overrun by race fans and difficult to navigate the entire week. (Of course, if you are a race fan, this is the best time to come). If you are planning an extended stay in Monaco, you’re in for a real treat, since the weather is mild year round, and most people never have to break out their coats. Ever.

Things to Do and See in Monaco

Monaco is brimming with wonderful sights, sounds and attractions. Plan your visit to allow enough time to visit:

• St. Nicholas Cathedral. Final resting place of the infamously beautiful Grace Kelly.
• Institute Oceanologique. This fabulous aquarium was founded over a century ago, is home to a museum, and was once managed by Jacque Cousteau.
• The Royal Palace. Watch the changing of the guard at midday and see the stunning architecture of this royal residence.

These are just three of the top attractions you will find in Monaco. Much more await your discovery!
