In response to Robin Day's article, here's what I came up with:

Birds:

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Isn't that just ducky?
Nice weather for ducks!
Duck!!
Ducks-rubber footwear for rainy days
Sing like a bird.
Swan song-farewell appearance
Sing like a bird.
Pecking order
Crestfallen??
Ugly duckling
As the crow flies
Eyes like a hawk
Loony-crazy
Loony-Canadian dollar coin
Hen parties-all-girl parties
To be a night hawk- to stay up half the night
Robin's egg blue

Dogs:

His bark is worse than his bite.
You're barking up the wrong tree.
Don't hound me.
dog tag-army ID
dog days of summer-refers to Sirius, the Dog Star
work like a dog
dog-eared
dogged-persistent
pup tent
We were treated like dogs-mistreated
dogtooth violet- North American wild flower
hounds-tooth- a textile weave

And then there's-----birddog! What else? C'mon, folks!
