Bedroom Decorating Techniques from India
By:Veronica Smith <veronica_writer@yahoo.com>

Indian decorating techniques generally reflect not only the rich cultural history of India itself, but also glimpses of the influences from other surrounding areas and countries. The typical India-inspired bedroom is rich in the artistic influence of traditional Indian culture combined with other cultural influences.

Beautiful Woods and Finishes
Typical furniture in the Indian bedroom includes exotic woods with an emphasis on finely crafted detailing, including inlaid stones and wooden patterns. Furniture is often finely carved with intricate details, and fine woods such as teak, red cedar, mahogany, ebony and rosewood are quite common. Furniture items are usually made from exotic woods with an overall rich, dark appearance. When simpler woods are used instead, furniture pieces are usually finished with dark stains to make them look like they were made from dark exotic wood varieties. Furniture pieces are also commonly painted in decorative ways, often with an emphasis on traditional Indian styles of architecture or colorful patterns and designs. Motifs such as rounded arches and pointed domes are often quite popular in Indian bedroom furniture.

Add Beauty with Decorative Fabrics
Richly decorative fabrics are also commonly featured in Indian styled homes, and bedrooms often combine many different varieties of rich and colorful fabrics. Fabrics are often beautifully and brightly colored, and are commonly used for decorative items such as rugs, furniture upholstery, wall tapestries, pillows and bed linens. Brightly colored and patterned sheets are common Indian bed linen choices, along with vividly colored pillow cases in beautiful solid colors.

Incorporating Artwork for a Traditional Indian Look
Art is almost always included in the Indian style of decorating, and the bedroom is no different. Indian artwork generally depicts mythical or magical creatures, and well as traditional and historical designs that often include buildings as part of the design. Statues in the bedroom can also help to incorporate an overall traditional Indian look that remains true to the country's rich mythical and religious heritage.

Traditional Indian Decorating Styles in the Bedroom
Rich and vibrant colors are generally the norm in an Indian-inspired bedroom, with walls often painted in bright and cheerful colors such as warm yellows, oranges and reds. Pink, fuchsia and purple are also quite at home in a typical Indian bedroom. These bright wall colors blend beautifully with the bright and richly colored fabrics that are the norm in an Indian bedroom, with an emphasis on using what an individual personally finds visually pleasing. Fabrics commonly used in Indian bedrooms include printed cottons, silks and fabric items that have been beautifully decorated with beads and embroidery. Pillows, tapestries, rugs and wall hangings are also common in Indian bedrooms, all with the same rich varieties of beautiful colors.

A Beautiful Blend of Cultures
Because Indian decorating styles generally incorporate not only the culture of India but also the cultures of other Asian countries, the overall look and style of Indian decorating tends to be extremely varied, with a vibrant color palette. However, in a typical Indian bedroom, traditional styles are blended together beautifully with other decorating touches that are inspired by other countries.
