Getting to Goa, India
By:Orson Johnson

Goa is a charming state in the west of India, and is seen by many as one of the best states to visit in India. With its scenic beaches, delicious local cuisine, rich history and east-west culture, it is perhaps no wonder that Goa sees more than two million visitors per year. Visitors can reach Goa by air travel, by bus or by train.

By Air - Goa's main airport is Dabolim airport located in Vasco. It is a bustling, busy airport which is almost always crowded due to the sheer number of tourists that have chosen Goa as their preferred holiday destinations. The airport caters to both international and domestic flights. You can fly to Goa directly from places such as Kuwait, UAE, United Kingdom, Germany, Russia and Switzerland. Generally, international visitors prefer to fly to Mumbai before making their way to Goa. There are also numerous domestic flights from other parts of India such as Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Bangalore. The main airlines at this airport are Indian Airlines, Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways. Once you have cleared immigration and wish to head to your intended destination in Goa, just head outside the airport and get a pre-paid taxi to take you there.

By Bus - If you are from other Indian cities, you may want to reach Goa by bus. There are increasing number of bus services, especially those plying the route from Bangalore to Goa and New Delhi to Goa, so getting a ticket should not be a problem. There are also different types of bus services so be sure to choose one that suits your traveling needs and desired comfort level.

By Train - There are direct train services to Goa from places such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Mangalore, Kochi, Bangalore, Chennai, Admedabad and Kolkata. Such trains will usually drop you off at either Madgaon in South Goa or Thivim, which is located close to Calangute Beach. You may also choose to take the Konkan Railway, which is a single track running between Mumbai and Kerala, with stops in Goa. Travelling by train is usually a very interesting and pleasant experience as it gives you the opportunity to interact with locals and to survey the passing countryside. The conditions onboard the train are also very pleasant. Take note that demand for train services are extremely high, especially during peak travel periods, so you would do well to book your tickets in advance.
