Discover Important Tips on How to Relocate to India
By:Benny Horowitz

There are many reasons to relocate to India; family issues, the need to go 'home', teaching your children about their heritage, the list can be endless. No matter the reason, you're moving to another country, a country with different cultures, customs, money, and languages. Here are some important tips for you to use to make the transition easier. Just remember, living in India may be much different than visiting for a few weeks.

Before you relocate to India, consider these questions; are your pets going, what about your household good, will your health insurance company continue coverage in a foreign country, can you take your prescriptions, what about your cell phone service, and what is it going to cost to live in India? You've probably thought of a few more questions by now; make a list and thing about hiring a relocating company.

If you're not moving for your employer; finding a job should be fairly easy. Professional jobs are plentiful, if you've the proper knowledge and training. If you're to be paid in dollars instead of rupees, then you'll need to open a Resident Foreign Currency (RFC) account. 1 US dollar equals about 44 rupees, the official monetary unit of India. When you arrive in India, you'll need to declare any money, travelers' checks or bank notes at customs.

Although India is now similar to the US in terms of housing, shopping, schools and technology; what may be the hardest to get used to when you relocate to India is that people don't always arrive where and when they're supposed to. For people used to definite time frames, this can be very irritating! Another thing to consider before you relocate to India is the difference in celebrations; Indians can be more noisy celebrators than what you are used to. They celebrate festivals, community events, and national holidays. In fact, there are about 43 holidays per year. India's Independence Day is the 15th of August, flying the national flag and kites are the most popular way to symbolize the freedom they earned.

You also need to re-learn or learn new vocabulary words; gas is called petrol, an apartment is a flat, yogurt is called curds and cookies are called biscuits. Oh, and don't forget to learn Hindi; some common words are: "Namaste" means "Hello", "Kripaya" means "please" and "Namaste/Tata" means "goodbye".

One more thing to advise you of before you relocate to India; they are not beef eaters and Muslims don't eat pork. Taking chocolate and or flowers is a common gift to bring to the hostess and arriving late is common. Ask, if you are unsure of what the proper thing to do is.
