Hi,
I can't answer your question. But I would very much appreciate it if you keep in touch with me if you go to teach in Korea, or any Asian country. Because I am also an African American who wants to teach English in Asia, and am also researching Asian people's attitudes towards African Americans. I try to chat with Asians overseas, but that has not yet yielded any definitive results. We may have to just break new ground and show the Asian people that many of us are far better then the media makes us out to be. But one thing I have learned from my research is that Asians think Whites to be superior to Blacks, because of all the turmoil in Africa, and the high rate of poverty among African Americans. "How can we be so poor in the country of great and equal opportunities," is the message they receive from American propaganda. Thailand or even Viet Nam may be a better destination, for us, then Korea or Taiwan. I am still up in the air about China. The older people their may still have negative attitudes. But the younger people seem more enlightened. And I have Black friends who have visited and reported they had a wonderful time and were well received.
Any way, the best of luck to you. I hope where ever you go, you have a very rewarding experience, and take a little time to email me about it.
