teaching private lessons in korea is actually illegal for E series visa holders (teaching visas). ill admit, ive taught private lessons but its something u have to be very careful about (i think u get fined or deported or something getting caught doing it).

honestly, as a foreigner i've run into two ways of getting private lesson clients: 1) my hagwon director asked me if i wanted to teach on the side...and if i did she could give me people who want to learn 2) just by randomly meeting people on the street...they ask if u teach privates.

if u choose to do that, u gotta be extremely cautious. i turned down my boss but accepted teaching from people i met off the job. a couple of girls i worked w/ were my tellers at the bank i banked at. good girls but like many locals pretty uninformed about the law especially pertaining to foreigners teaching private lessons. i ended up teaching them after work in public places (restuarants, coffee shops) definitely not the brightest move on my part but i only had a couple days left to be in country, so i said the hell w/ it.

if u are a foreigner but married to a local or someone of korean descent, u should be on an F series visa. if thats the case, legally u can teach private lessons but have to register w/ the city (i think immigration or maybe the labor board i forgot).

as far as working in a learning center, i dont think u can do that unless u are under contract (or on an F series visa). but never say never. u could walk into a situation where the place is in desperate need of an english teacher and they can hire u for the time being. just be careful...immigration does do sweeps around schools and checks the status on current teachers (not really random and unannounced...schools usually have an idea of when its going to be done). seen it happen before...
