School:International School of Aruba

The International School of Aruba is a nonprofit co-educational English language school. It was founded in 1929 and was owned by Lago Oil and Transport Co. Ltd. From 1986 on, the school was governed by the ISA community and parent body. ISA was acquired by ISS, International School Services, in 2004. In 2005, a new campus was constructed and ISA was relocated to the center of the island of Aruba in the Wayaca neighborhood. The school is a U.S. State Department assisted school.

Accreditation:
The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). An interim visit was conducted in the spring of 2004. ISA will be visited in May, 2008 for a full accreditation quality review.

Academic Program and Curriculum:
The curriculum used is a U.S. based college preparatory program. Classes are taught in English except for the world language classes offered in Dutch and Spanish.

ISA administers yearly ITBS (IOWA) tests to grades 2-8. In addition, the PSAT, ACT, SAT and AP examinations are administered. College Board approved Advanced Placement classes include: English, Spanish, and Studio Art. Ninety percent of graduates go on to universities in North America and other countries. The school year begins in August and completes in June. Dutch and Spanish are offered to Beginners all the way through advance levels for Native speakers. Dutch exams for CITO, MAVO, HAVO/VWO are organized and taken by ISA students.

Faculty:
ISA has 23 faculty members for the 2007-2008 school year. The staff is an experienced group of educators composed of eight different nationalities with the majority coming from the United States and Canada. Seventy percent have master's degrees. The Headmaster is US trained and certified with both U.S. and International experience.

Enrollment:
The school currently serves 165 students from Montessori (3 yrs. old) through grade 12. The student body represents 28 countries. The 2008 senior class size has 10 students.

Facilities:
The campus is a new, air-conditioned facility designed to serve 250 students. The school grounds include a soccer and softball field, a basketball court and volleyball area under a covered gym; other facilities include a stage, a playground, (4) large gazebo shelters, 2 science labs, 2 computer labs, and an automated library of 10,000 volumes. There is also a multi-purpose room with a cafeteria.
