The American School of Belo Horizonte was founded in 1956 and is a non-profit independent day school offering a college preparatory education. Our students are prepared to continue their education at the university level, whether it is in the United States, Brazil or elsewhere. Although the emphasis is on academic achievement, we strive to motivate each individual to reach his or her highest potential, as well as stimulate our students to be independent, life-long learners.

It's the state capital of Minas Gerais and the third largest city in country, with a population of over 3.5 million people in the greater metropolitan area. Belo Horizonte is culturally diverse, rich, exciting and very alive! Despite its size, BH (as it's usually called) is considered by the United Nations' Population Crisis Commitee as the safest city in Brazil and the best city in Latin America, with high quality of life ratings.
