In the light of the above, my advice to anyone in the PRC seeking a local L visa renewal is to take the Michael out of them. Ignore their guidelines/advice to apply 10 days' early to renew. Arrive with your required docs and photocopies intact on the last day your visa is valid. As a result, you';ll be carrying a passport with an expired visa for a while, but you'll have a receipt to return to get your new visa. So, no probs! Such action is 'specially required by you if the local PSB chooses, as is their right, to be stingy in terms of length of visa. LOL!
