Goal Setting Tips - Do You Have the Resources to Achieve Your Goals?
By:Roger Clark

Undoubtedly you will need resources to achieve you goals. Probably money is the first thing that comes into your mind when you hear the word 'resource'. You are right, there are very few goals that can be achieved without any money. But contacts, knowledge, skills, time, health can also be resources that can be used to accomplish your dreams.

There are few people who have enough resources from the start to achieve their goals. Most people are short on at least a couple. Someone may have enough money to train to become a world-class skier, but because he is not very talented, it's unlikely that he will be prepared to qualify to the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Even if somebody has limited resources to achieve his dreams, if he carefully compensates with the resources he has at his disposal, he can overcome many shortfalls. Therefore our wannabe skier may decide that he wants to invest more money, or he can borrow time and try to qualify for the 2018 Winter Olympics.

You can go thorough your list of goals, and try to evaluate the resource requirements for each: make sure that if you have two different goals set for a certain time frame, you will have enough resources to accomplish them both. If not, you may decide to make another schedule.

Most of goals will need at least some money to achieve. If you want to build a home, travel around the world or open a small business, you will need funding. Even with a goal like having a job at a corporation you will need some money: you may have to get some additional education, or at least you will have to buy a new suit for the interview.

It is important to make a fair estimate about whether you have enough money to achieve your dreams? You should answer the following questions: Do you have enough time the earn the money needed to fund the process of achieving your goal? Is there any possibility to make a loan? By using some other resource can you compensate the lack of funding?

Knowledge is another very important asset, that can be of great help when you try to reach your a goal in a certain time frame. You may compensate the lack of knowledge with time, using a trial-and-error technique. To have a fair estimate about your knowledge in a certain area, you should try to ask yourself: what knowledge you need to achieve your goals? How can you attain that knowledge: by talking to experts, by having some sort of formal education, or making on-line research?
