Spreading High Self-Esteem at Your Work
By:Liv Miyagawa

High self-esteem makes everything in life easier - including work. Considering that you will probably spend more hours at work than at home most days of your life, building a high self-esteem at your work place is very important. Having a high self-esteem atmosphere will make your work more fun, more successful and you will have less problematic issues with your colleagues.

4 ways in which you can spread high self-esteem at your work:

1. Give compliments. Simple but powerful. People feel good about themselves when they receive positive feedback. The more compliments your give the more likely is it that you will also receive compliments in return (and this will help you to raise your self-esteem). Don't forget to also give lots of compliments to your boss! Bosses usually hear more complaints than praise, and to help your boss to do a good job you will need to help him/her to feel good about what he/she does.
2. Banish back-talking. Speaking badly about others behind their back is not good for anyone. Back-talking will lower your own self-esteem (because you're doing something bad although you want to be a good person), and it will affect the person spoken about negatively so that he/she also gets a lower self-esteem. Instead, try to speak positively about every person at your work place also in their absence. This will make you feel good about yourself and it will increase everybody's positive feelings about the person you speak positively about.
3. Make sure that you get to do the tasks that you enjoy doing. Your personal performance at work will be a lot better if you actually do tasks that you are interested in and love doing. To get to do the tasks that you want to do you need to let others know which tasks you enjoy doing. Depending on the nature of your work you may have to do some boring tasks as well, but make sure that you don't spend your time only on tasks that you don't enjoy. Take responsibility for your own well-being at work.
4. Listen to everybody. It is important to listen properly to all your colleagues because this will raise their self-esteem. When you listen actively you make them feel like you are interested in them and that you care about them. The better you listen to others the more you help them to grow their self-esteem. It also makes it more likely that they will listen actively to you, and this will help to raise your self-esteem.
