10 Reasons Why People Blush
By:Mike Buontempo

Blushing could not be explained even by Charles Darwin as to why it happens and bewildered scientists for centuries. Darwin found blushing peculiar and pointed out that a person who blushes may not be trusted. The Scientists have been delving upon the topic of blushing to find more reasons of its occurrences:

1. Blushing occurs in a situation like arriving late or breaking a social norm or feels he is making, or had made himself vulnerable to the criticism of others.
2. Blushing is associated with being in love and talking about the loved ones.
3. Blushing maintains an interesting link between one's physical and mental self. What one finds embarrassing or worth apologizing for can be seen in an involuntary physical response.
4. Blushing is a response that is controlled by the Sympathetic Nervous System and the leading Scientists said "fight or flight" response is a biological response to stress or fear and is controlled by the sympathetic nervous system.
5. In a situation of embarrassment, the adrenal glands are activated and release adrenaline that activates the sympathetic nervous system and sets in motion the fight or flight response.
6. Sexual arousal generally causes an increase in the body's temperature that cause blushing and the face of a person becomes flushed, which in turn increase blood flow to the face, resulting in a blushing effect.
7. Sometimes blushing can be a sign that there are health concerns and people experiencing blushing after drinking alcoholic beverages have an increased likelihood of developing esophageal cancer.
8. Severe facial blushing is also referred to as "idiopathic craniofacial erythema" and is the direct result of a sympathetic nervous system that is in overdrive. People who have this condition find that it happens uncontrollably in almost any public setting, making their work and social life difficult and embarrassing.
9. Blushing is a normal physiological response that is reddening in the face, neck and/or chest and may result from strong emotions such as embarrassment, anger or excitement.
10. Blushing is an appeasement behavior designed to signal to the rest of the group that the individual in question realizes their social transgressions and asks for the group's approval or forgiveness.
