By:Mike Buontempo

Blushing is an art of expressing ones emotions of excitement through facial appearance be it for self-attention, embarrassment or shame. Blushing usually occurs in a situation, such as arriving late or breaking a social norm or feels he is making, or had made, himself vulnerable to the criticism of others. During the state of Blushing, face turns red, eyes in some cases look downwards and the person stands motionless or continues to be sitting and staring at the floor. Since this action is an automatic response, it is nearly impossible to stop once the action has begun. In fact, the harder one tries to stop blushing; more the face gets red.

Charles Darwin stated that Blushing is the most complex expression of emotional state of human beings including self-attention, shame, shyness, modesty and described blushing as "the most peculiar of all expressions".

Leading psycho-physiologists have suggested that blushing is the visible manifestation of the physiological rebound of the basic instinct in a person of fight mechanism when physical action is not possible.
