Women Self-Confidence Tips - Achieve Goals Through Self-Confidence
By:Christine Pirkey

Can self-confidence really help you with your goals? In many instances, the answer is, "Yes, it can!" There are times when some women have relied on their self-confidence where they had little more than that to offer.

I have a friend who, for some reason or other, seems to have been born with an abundance of self-confidence where getting a job was concerned.

This is her story.

Note: This is not a made-up story to substantiate the above claim. Every word of it is true, even though most of us would be hard-pressed to be so bold.

Right out of high school, my friend decided to forego college for an office job. Had she taken some kind of training for such a job? No. But because of her self-confidence, she never gave a thought to the fact that she knew nothing about office work.

She was offered the first job she applied for. She didn't sell Human Resources on her job skills, because basically, she had none. Instead, she sold them through her projected self-confidence that she could do the job, even though they wanted someone with computer experience in their line of work.

A short time later, after she had mastered that first job, she decided she wanted something different. So she checked for job openings online. The job she chose to apply for was one that, again, specified 'experienced only.' The interview lasted only a few moments, and she left with the papers to fill out for her new job, which was in a line of work that she was completely unfamiliar with.

Less than a year later, she was ready to try something different again. And so on and on, until one day she decided it was time for college. Of course, she hadn't saved any money from her various jobs, and taking out a loan didn't appeal to her, but that didn't stop her determination from getting a college degree.

So, again, she checked the want adds.

Soon, she spotted a notice from a private college seeking a student-helper for the Dean. Without the slightest hesitation, she walked into the Dean's office and assured her that she was capable of doing any part-time work that needed doing, in exchange for a free college education. She was hired on the spot, and spent the next few years as the Dean's helper, while she received her free education.

After she received her degree in English (with honors), which she had intended to use for teaching, she left the private college behind, and set out to find a permanent position. At that time, she had two goals in mind. One of the goals was to not teach English. The other one was to find some way to help young people.

So, back to the want adds again. Almost immediately, she applied for a position at a non-profit organization for special requirement youths. Once she was working there, it wasn't long before she was the second in charge of all fund-raising activities, including planning and hosting dinners, etc., and calling local dignitaries for contributions. This, finally, was where her self-confidence helped her-and the non-profit organization-the most.

And this is where she still is today.

In the beginning, what was my friend relying on that other people, and companies, sought? In other words, what did she offer each of them in exchange for what she wanted from them?

She offered them the chance to be close to someone who exuded such self-confidence that she would walk unafraid into any Lion's Den and claim the prize extended as her own, that's what! And that was what each (secretly) hoped would rub off on them in their quest for excellence in their own right.

Without being born with it, can you acquire self-confidence like this? Perhaps, with a little bit of "daring-do" and a dash of "I can!" attitude, it may be possible.

After all, even she had to begin somewhere.

Before I end this little story about my friend, lest you think she may have been a bit too selfish in changing jobs with so little notice, let me assure you that she never left a job that she hadn't given better than 100% to, and would have been welcomed back in a heartbeat!
