How To Beat Procrastination - If You Don't Know Your Enemy You'll Always Procrastinate
By:Dan Goodwin

Procrastination is one of the biggest and most destructive creativity killers there is.

The reason why it's most effective in its objective of preventing you from creating, is because much of the time you don't even realise it's happening. Like some charming and suave street thief who engages you in "innocent" conversation to ask directions - leaving you thinking "what a lovely, friendly person, I was glad I could help... Hey where's my watch gone!" - procrastination hits when you least expect it.

How often have you intended to settle down for a couple of hours of pure creativity, with no interruptions to that precious creative flow, then "just" gone to make a drink, "just" checked once more that you have all the supplies you might possibly need for this project, or "just" decided it was imperative you reorganised your underwear drawer?

An hour passes in the blink of an eye and you've barely created an impression in your chair, let alone done anything meaningful in the creative project you've chosen to work on.

The crucial point here is awareness. Or rather lack of awareness.

You see, procrastination is creative too. Isn't that ironic?

One of the biggest reasons why you don't create more, is because procrastination is actually masterfully inventive itself in all the ways it appears and in all the ways it convinces you that these minor distracting tasks are absolutely urgent and can't be left a moment longer.

So as well you as distracting you from creating what it is you set out to create, that devious procrastination is also sucking your creativity, energy and ideas that you could be channeling into your projects!

The most simple step to putting a stop to such bare faced daylight robbery is to admit you procrastinate.

Think back to the street thief. If you saw your watch was gone but didn't admit it, acting as if nothing had happened, then there's nothing you could then do to get your watch back, or to take action to prevent a similar thing happening again!

Take this vital step today and admit you procrastinate. As soon as you do, the whole game changes.

Procrastination is no longer running around between the shadows, snatching your creative energy while you're not looking. It now knows you're on to it. And it knows that because you've taken this important first step, you about to take the next step. In short, its days are numbered!
