Hollywood Climate & Weather
By:Dan Zisko

Just thinking about Hollywood, California brings images of celebrity and wealth in a playground atmosphere. One thinks of beautiful and fit people lounging about in the Southern California sunshine. This image has made Hollywood one of the top tourist destinations in the country. However, Hollywood does have different weather than just sunshine and warmth every day of the year. When traveling to Hollywood, one must be prepared for all different kinds of weather.

Location
The neighborhood of Hollywood is located just west of downtown Los Angeles. It is bordered by two freeways, the 101 on the east and the 10 to the south. Just north of Hollywood are the Santa Monica mountains, home of the famous Hollywood sign. Bordering the neighborhood to the west is the upscale area, Beverly Hills.

Temperature
Hollywood is pretty warm the entire year. Its pleasant atmosphere is due to its protection by the Santa Monica and San Gabriel mountains from the more extreme temperatures. On average, the highs range from the upper 60's in December and January to the mid 80's during the summer months of July and August. Hollywood can get cold, but rarely will the temperature get below 45 degrees during the winter and 65 degrees during the summer.

Sunshine
Hollywood has the reputation of being a very sunny place and that reputation is well earned. Hollywood has over 260 days per year of sunshine. This places it as one of the sunniest places in the United States. Most of these days come during the spring, summer and fall months as the winter months are what is considered the rainy season.

Rainfall
Hollywood doesn't get a lot of rain, but it does average about 1.25 to 1.5 inches per year. The rainiest months are January, February, and March with February being the wettest with an average rainfall of about 3.25 inches. The summer months of June, July, and August are the driest months of the year with the June total rainfall barely reaching .25 inches.

Humidity
Hollywood has mild humidity levels throughout the year. The winter months of December, January, and February are actually the least humid with ranges from 65 to 71 percent, depending on the month and time of day. The summer months of June, July, and August are more humid by comparison, but that range is still mild, ranging anywhere from 68 to 86 percent.
