The Best Time to Visit Universal Studios
By:Jennifer Loucks

Universal Studio's in Florida and California are known for attracting tourists year-round. The weather in both states is generally always warm; however, there are times of the year when the weather is more comfortable and crowds are manageable. When planning a vacation, research and plan to make the best out of the time you have.

Best Months to Visit
Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, and Hollywood, California, have similar crowd seasons. The best times to visit are the months of January through mid-May, except for the spring break and Easter weeks, and the week after Thanksgiving through mid-December before the holiday crowds start. The weather is cooler during these months, and there are no risks of hurricane-related storms. September and October have lower crowds, but there is a risk that rides will be down for maintenance during these times, as the busy summer season will have just ended.

Avoid school holidays, as these days have larger crowds. Summer is the worst time to visit the parks. The crowds are heavy, the weather is extremely warm and there is a chance of hurricane weather in the later part of summer.

Best Days of the Week to Visit
Frommer's recommends visiting Universal Studios near the end of the week, on Thursday and Friday, as the crowds tend to be lower. The weekends are the worst time to visit. If you do vacation during a busy season, visit the parks later in the afternoon until closing, as the crowds are heavier in the mornings. Many of the attractions are indoors, so light rains should not affect your park time.

Special Productions
Watch the Universal Studio's website for information on films in production, as this may factor into the dates you choose to visit. While not guaranteed, if a movie is in production you have a chance of seeing the film set and actors.

During October, the Islands of Adventure park at Universal Studios hosts Halloween Horror Nights, which may frighten younger children. Frommer's lists this event as a grown-up event not suitable for young children.

Mid-February through mid-April hosts an evening Mardi Gras celebration that serves alcohol. This event also is not suitable for young children, but is only in the evening hours.
