Resume and Interview Tips

Creating the Perfect Resume
By:sam neumark

So how long will that employer you want to work for so badly look at your resume for before deciding whether or not to call you for an interview? Probably not more than 30 seconds! For all that time you put into writing up your resume thirty seconds seems kind of short, but at the same time it is enough time to make an impression on a potential future employer and if it's impressive it will be the factor the propels an emplyer to contact you for an interview. With the resume being the first impression that the employer gets of a job applicant, its important to make your resume the best it can be so you can stand out from other potential applicants in a competitive job market.

Here are some tips on perfecting that resume so you can get that phone call you've been long waiting for:

1. Keep your resume short usually no longer than one page (remember 30 seconds!)

2. Make sure it's neat, organized and easy to read use bullet points when necessary

3. Make sure to be honest about your skills and abilities education, qualifications, past employment or a prison record are all things that businesses can look into nowadays and lying about any of these things can turn out to be extremely detrimental in the long run.

4. NO TYPOS! Make sure to check over your resume when you are done writing up and it wouldn't be a bad idea to ask a family member or friend to read it over before submitting it to firms.

5. Include as much work experience as possible even if it's babysitting, working for family friends or volunteering it would be a good idea to include it on the resume especially if you don't have much professional work experience.

6. If you are a student and have a good grade point average include it!

7. Make sure to include any awards or honors you've received that will make you look good to employers.

8. Include two or three references that can vouch your hard work, determination and skills. Make sure you inform them and get their permission prior to including them in your resume.

9. Keep it simple this your resume is not your autobiography so do not include a career or life story of yourself.

10. Value Proposition lastly, make sure your resume conveys how you will be an asset to the company you are applying for.
