Cover Letters - What Information is Essential to Include in a Cover Letter?
By:Roland Johanson

When it comes to writing a cover letter for a job application, you may instantly be overwhelmed, not knowing what you really need to include. You do not want to rewrite your resume, nor do you want to share your life story. Here are some quick guidelines to ensure you have the basic essential information in your letter.

1. Be sure to know the name of the person that will be reading your cover letter. This shows that you have done your research about the company and you know who the head of hiring is. It also gives a personal feeling to your CV letter.

2. State what you are currently doing (if anything) as a job, and what your accomplishments are in the field in which you are applying. This should be kept simple, clean and to-the-point-the resume should be able to address this information in depth. Keep it short, sweet, and bring out your best assets here.

3. Understand the company's goals and mission, and be sure to address how you feel you can help the company succeed. Break down specific assets that you can offer to the hiring company, and include these in your CV letter.

4. Be sure to include a note about the company itself. State that you're aware of their recent acquisition of another company, their growth in their industry, or some other important, public data to show that you are genuinely interested in the company and have done your homework.

5. Remember, keep it short, simple, and with as little verbiage as possible. This is the first, and possibly only, impression you will have on the company, so make sure you stand out from the crowd and put your best foot forward when writing your CV letter.
