5 Resume Cover Letter Tips - To Get Affection and Avoid Rejection
By:Cynthia Baxter

I've seen several articles on "resume cover letter tips" but none of them included these important tips

#1: Read Your Resume Cover Letter Out Loud

How well does your writing roll off the tongue? Do some sentences seem awkward when you read them out loud? If so, change them and read them again... and again... and again until it flows perfectly. Pay attention to tempo. You may want to shorten some sentences and combine others. Most people proof read by reading silently. By and large, this works fine for punctuation and grammar. However, for judging how well the writing flows and how well your point comes across, it is often best to read it out loud.

#2: Ask Yourself This Question: Does Your Resume Cover Letter Convey Enthusiastic Energy Without Sounding Disingenuous?

You want to come across as an enthusiastic person full of vitality and ready to tackle anything they throw at you. However, if you express your enthusiasm too overtly, it can sometimes sound like you're faking it even when you're not. So, there's a fine line here. Use the first tip above and read your resume cover letter out loud and try to "hear" how your enthusiasm comes across. You may also want to read it out loud to other people and let them judge if your enthusiasm sounds fake or not.

#3: Boldly State How You Will Benefit the Company

Do this in a short concise way - no more than 3 sentences as you don't want this important message getting lost in too much writing. You might be surprised how many job applicants actually expect the hiring manager to figure out how they might fit into the company. They list out a bunch of skills on a resume and then hope that the company can find a use for them. If you do this, you are asking the hiring manager to work way too hard on your behalf. You need to be the one to bring this to the table and you need to do so in a very clear fashion.

#4: Do Not Be Overly Professional

Many job applicants try to be so professional in their cover letter it makes them out to be dull, boring, uninteresting people. The reason for this is often because they are using the same old boiler plate language that everyone else is using, usually from free templates that have been recycled thousands of times. To be noticed and stand out as one of the top candidates, you need to show some personality and originality. Loosen up and show you are a member of the human race - a likable person that they would want to associate with.

#5: Write Your Cover Letter Like a Really Convincing Sales Letter

When you are applying for a job, you are a product and you want to sell yourself like a hot new product that is totally irresistible and better than all the other shiny products in the same category. To this end, your cover letter should be written like a really convincing sales letter. People usually buy things based on emotion. You need to use your cover letter to push the right emotional buttons to persuade the hiring manager to "buy" you.

Hope these resume cover letter tips help you land a great job. Good Luck.
