Resume and Interview Tips

How to Make Your Resume Stand Out
By:Anderson Paul

The thought of writing a resume intimidates many people. It is difficult to know where to start and what to include in the document. However, there are different models that can help you writing your resume.

Here are some aspects that can help you not only to accomplish the task, but to get a winning resume:

* Determine what type of job you want, which is your career objective, what do you know to do best and which is the area of interest.

* Think of your resume as if it is a marketing tool. Think of yourself as if you were a product, of the employer as if he were a client and of the resume as if it were a brochure about the product you are trying to sell. What are the companies advantages in hiring you and what benefits can they get from you? What makes you unique? Make sure the answers are found in your resume.

* Use your resume to get an interview, not a job. It's no need to write every detail about every accomplishment. Try to be clear and concise. The aim of your resume is to generate enough interest so the employer will call you for an interview. The meeting will have the opportunity to detail on achievements, objectives and proven skills in other jobs.

* Start with what is most important. Since resumes are read, usually in less than 30 seconds, you decide what the experience, education, skill is more important and start with that section. Put your strengths first, to get all the chances to be read.

* Accentuate the positive. Avoid negative or irrelevant points. If you feel that the last school graduation date disadvantages you, do not mention the year, but only the name of diploma or institution. If you have certain responsibilities to the current job that you do not want to take on next, do not write that in your resume. Focus on those tasks that you want and you can do next. Leave aside any irrelevant personal information such as weight or height.

* Build a resume that can be read easily. Leave empty spaces, use a larger font for your document and limit it to 1-2 pages. Resumes are read quickly, so help the recruiter to scan the presentation effectively.
