Resume and Interview Tips

Award Winning Resume Formats
By:Brian G Chadra

By properly formatting your resume, you can gain the look of an award winner by following some simple guidelines. You don't have to have the fanciest paper or a laser jet printer to have the nicest resume, but there are certain things that a prize winning resume contains that is probably lacking in your document. The first thing to be considered is the actual layout on your paper.

There should be a clean, one inch border on all four sides. This can be set up in page set up or print preview in most major word processing programs. Also, be sure to use either Times New Roman or Arial fonts with a size twelve type face when printing your paper. This ensures a nice look that is easy to read. Since it is also the default industry standard, you will receive extra kudos for knowing this face. Another formatting mistake people make is to include all of the jobs that they have ever held making the document 2 to 3 pages.

While there are two camps debating how long a resume should be, chances are that anything longer than one page will not even be looked at, so why waste your time by including unnecessary items that won't gain you an advantage over your competitors. Be sure also to have your resume printed on good clean white or light cream paper. Colored paper is only for persons in advertising or a creative field as such. Again don't waste your time and effort. Good luck!

Until next time,

Brian
