Resume and Interview Tips

Resumes For Educators
By:Brian G Chadra

If you are a typical educational professional, trying to get a new resume completed is almost impossible due to constraints imposed by your job. The mental and physical strains of classroom instruction, followed by mountains of paperwork and phone calls blended in with extra curricular activities can make other necessities seem unreachable. Finding the block of time necessary to compose a new resume seems fruitless unless you can separate it into manageable chunks.

However, if you could simply revise only a portion of your current resume, would this be worth it? Of course, so lets focus on the two major areas that are scrutinized the most by resume readers. This would be the job objective and experience sections. Instead of using the boring job objective, consider a profile summary that emphasizes your achievements in measurable terms. Think of this as the most important part of a sales letter about yourself. For example, instead of using "dedicated teacher looking for English position in suburban school district," write "English teacher with 15 years experience in prose, composition, rhetoric and yearbook duties seeks to continue successful career with award winning school district." See how the second one speaks to who the applicant is and what she is seeking?

The reader no longer has to figure out who this person is and what she wants. Follow this up in the balance of your paper including using action oriented verbs in the work experience section. You will soon find school districts waiting in line to interview you. Good luck!

Until next time,

Brian
