Resume and Interview Tips

Some First Time Questions - Do I Need a Resume and a Cover Letter to Apply For a Job?
By:Brian G Chadra

A cover letter is an introduction of who you are, the job that you are seeking and some of your strengths that relate directly to the desired opening (remember, most of the skills you have are noted on the resume that is included and may be referred to later in the letter).

A cover letter on average consists of three paragraphs with a header at the top of the page and a closing signature at the bottom. Make sure that you get the contact persons name and title if possible. This will go into the header portion of the document. Use the contact name, title, company, street address, city and state in this section. Next, after the opening salutation (e.g. Mr./Mrs./Ms. Jones), include how you found the job, why you are qualified and some past work experience that is relevant. The second paragraph will focus primarily on your strengths that directly relate to the job.

For example, a teacher might include 5 years of successful 2nd grade experience before relocating with her husband to this area. The employer now has a good idea of the candidates capabilities and will undoubtedly require further research on this person. The last paragraph will close by thanking the viewer for his/her time and once again indicate a strong interest in the position. This helps to keep the applicants name fresh and unique, putting it apart from the others. Finish with a closing salutation: Sincerely yours or Your truly and leave four blank spaces for a signature in blue or black ink. That's it, Good luck!

OK, you are still worried that your resume isn't good enough. Or your hectic schedule doesn't give you the time to devote to composing that amazing resume. How about a program that will do the job for you in 30 minutes? http://buildyourownresume.netne.net/

Best regards,
